EYES by Carlijn Jacobs, a mesmerising cross between a book and a fanzine. Published by Note Note Éditions as part of their Note Collection – a series which explores the obsessions of contemporary photographers – Jacobs chose to focus on eyes because they are “the truth of a person, the mirror of the soul.” Drawing inspiration from surrealism and art deco, EYES is a revelatory exploration of a complex organ, made in collaboration with various make-up artist (mainly Masea Ito). “For me, surrealism is a form of escapism, it’s between reality and a dream, life and art,” says Jacobs. “I feel the need to create something with my work that isn’t reality as I have seen it.”
